What is Airbrush Tanning?

The body is gently airbrushed with a gentle spray mist, using a UV free sunless tanning solution.  The active ingredient in the solution

is DHA a colorless sugar often derived from plant sources such as sugar beets and sugar cane, which naturally darkens the skin. This special

formula works by interacting with the natural amino acids in the dead surface cells found in the outermost layer of the skin. This produces a

color change, which resembles a UV based tan.  As the dead skin cells gradually wear off, the color slowly fades, just like a genuine sun

tan. This does not cause damage to the underlying living layers of skin.

Is it safe?

The active ingredient DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) has been approved for cosmetic applications for 30 years. Most Sunless and bronzing tanning

lotions use DHA. People who have DHA allergies should test their skin first before using.  We believe that sunless tanning is the safest way to

tan.  With all we know about the sun and the damage it can do to our skin, sunless tanning is truly the way of the future. A real tan may look

good at first but in a matter of time it can result in cosmetic issues like wrinkles, pigmentation problems, and sagging skin. Even worse, it can

cause real health issues in the form of skin cancer. Choosing a spray tan over sunbathing or tanning beds helps you avoid exposure to

harmful rays so your skin stays healthier and more youthful.

What is DHA?

DHA stands for Dihydroxy Acetone and is the most common self tanning ingredient used to achieve the bronzed look on your skin. It is a simple carbohydrate that is often derived from plant sources like sugar cane. (Fructose) It is non-toxic and has been on the FDA safety clearance list since 1970.   The DHA attaches it’s self to the amino acids in our skin cell and oxidizes.  That oxidization process is what turns our skin a brownish color after a few hours – much like a cut apple that turns brown when left exposed to the air.

How long will my sunless tanning session take?

It takes about 10 to 15 minutes for the entire process to be completed. The first 10 minutes for application of the tanning solution to your skin. Then approximately 5 more minutes for complete drying.

How should I prepare for my sunless tanning session?

Before your session shave and exfoliate with an exfoliating scrub. This will rid the skin of dead skin cells enabling the tan to last longer.  Make sure that there are no oils, lotions, perfumes, or make up on your skin.  These can affect the absorption of DHA (the sunless tanning ingredient) resulting in streaking and minimal color. Waxing, pedicures and facials should be done at least one day prior to your tanning session.  Deodorants should also be avoided. Spraying over deodorant can result in green rings around the arm pit and is difficult to remove.

What should I do after my session?

Wear loose-fitting, dark clothing for at least 8 hours. Do not shower, work out, or do any activity that causes sweating for the same period of time. This allows the solution optimal time to react with the amino acids in the skin, encouraging a smooth even tan. Follow your after care instructions given to you during your session.

How long do I have to wait after my session before I can shower?

We recommend that you wait at least 8 hours after tanning to give the solution enough time to fully set. Allowing the product to develop on skin overnight is ideal. If you shower earlier, you may diminish the intensity of the tan. When you do shower, the initial tan created by the water-soluble bronzer will wash off, but your long-lasting sunless tan will remain.

How long will it last?

Your tan typically lasts 5 to 10 days. The immediate bronzer gives you an instant bronze tan. The color intensifies over the next several hours. Most of the bronzer washes off with your first bath or shower. The beautiful, natural looking, sunless tan, remains.

Will I turn orange or streak?

No, you won’t. The airbrush is the most advanced sunless-tanning method on the market. Sunless tanning has come a long way from those old days.  The products we use create a nice golden brown tan.

How often do I need to do it?

That’s up to you. Once a week will maintain your color. Twice a week gets you quite dark.

What about allergic reactions?

If you have hypersensitive skin, or are allergic to sunless-tanning products, please proceed with caution. You should check with your physician prior to using this or any other sunless tanning product. We have not had any reports of reactions of any sorts.

What about my hair?

The solution is not normally absorbed by scalp and body hair, nor does it usually cause discoloration. Occasionally very pale, bleached, processed, very porous or grey hair can absorb some tint.  We will provide a protective hair cover for you to use.

What should I wear?

During your session you can wear whatever you will be comfortable in.  Bottoms are required, but be aware that they may become stained during the process.  We recommend wearing dark colored garments. The bronzer we use for your initial color is water-soluble and should easily wash out of most fabrics. However, spandex, lycra, wool, nylon, and leather can stain. Therefore, it is recommended you wear a dark colored, snug, older garment. This will create “tan lines”. You can also wear shorts and a shirt, if you prefer.

What does the tan look like?

Exactly like a tan.

Are there ways to enhance the results?

Using a high quality moisturizer frequently after the tanning session will help prolong the tan. You should not apply any moisturizers or lotions to the skin on the day of your session. Certain types of moisturizers or lotions applied during this period could cause streaking. Shimmer lotions and cosmetic bronzers can all be applied to enhance your radiant tan (after your first shower).

Can I tan in a UV tanning bed on the same day I get airbrushed?

A number of people have found that tanning with UV rays and the sunless tanning solution actually provides a better overall tan. If you plan to do both, in the same day, we recommend that you tan in the tanning bed first. Clean all lotion, or perspiration from skin, before being airbrushed.

I usually get freckles when I try to tan. Will the tanning solution make my freckles come out too?

There is nothing in the tanning solution that will cause more freckles to break out. In fact, in most cases, freckles and blemishes will become less pronounced because the lighter skin areas will darken and reduce the color differentiation between the blemishes and the rest of your skin.

What about other skin imperfections?

Spray Tanning disguises unsightly cellulite, blemishes, stretch marks, scars, hyper pigmentation and other imperfections of the skin.

How many times do I need to airbrush tan to achieve the color I want?

You will be tan after one session, but it may take a couple sessions to achieve your desired color depth. Once you reach the color you desire, you should be able to maintain it by tanning every four to seven days.

What is the benefit of Spray Tanning?

The main benefit to airbrush tanning is the protection it offers your skin. Traditional tanning methods, such as laying out in the sun or using a tanning bed can cause severe damage to your skin. Every time your skin is exposed to UV rays, your chances of developing skin cancer increase. Additionally, sun damage can cause wrinkles to develop prematurely.

Airbrush tanning allows you to get a rich natural looking tan while avoiding UV rays altogether. You can finally get a sexy tan without damaging your skin.

What should I wear to a tanning party?

Best to arrive in dark, loose fitting clothes or tracksuit. You may also want to bring flip flops to wear after your tan while you dry.

To all those who are uncomfortable about your figure, don't worry! Wear what you feel comfortable in. Wear a bikini, underwear, shorts .... we deal with all shapes, sizes and ages please do not feel nervous or embarrassed.

Is it appropriate to tip or give gratuity to my spray tan technician?

Yes, the technicians consider gratuities as the nicest compliment.  You would tip your technician the same as you would your hair dresser or other service providers.
